Quaint small town just 15 minutes east on Rt 40. Charming restaurants, Lake Tomahawk, and gift shops. Travel through town to Montreat for some nice hikes to the summit.

Take a pretty drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to the trailhead at mile marker 417. Hike through the lush woods to the lovely swimming hole. It does get pretty busy though, so if you're looking for something secluded, this may not be the spot. However, if you are unsure of where you are heading, as I don't recall the trail being marked, there will surely bump into someone to ask for directions!

Spring and summer often bring pop-up afternoon thunder storms, so bring the poncho. They can be torrential. On the plus, they usually end quickly and the sun is right back out.
