If the weather cooperates, you can see spectacular sunsets and sunrises over Lake Michigan. Many folks get up early, get coffee, wander down to the Michigan Beach find a spot that's not wet and watch the sunrise. It's wonderful.

Bring the right clothes
Always bring a sweatshirt. Temps can get chilly at night. If humid, t-shirts and shorts are your friends. Rain can roll in off the big lake, we usually hunker down and play games to pass the time.

Weather
Always check the weather before you go. The temps can change with ease. Know what your temperatures are going to be and that will help you with what to wear and what to pack.

Know what Fudgies means
The locals may refer to the visitors as "fudgies" because they come into town and buy fudge to eat. Not meant to be disrespectful just a common term.

Managing the Bridge Schedule
You can't be in a hurry in downtown Charlevoix. The lift bridge works on the hour and the half-hour. If you need to get through town at 1:00 or 1:30 you will encounter the bridge up and traffic backed up the hill. Nothing you can do but sit tight and wait. Patience is necessary here.

How to manage the summer visitors
Charlevoix is very busy from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Especially over the 4th of July holiday. If you want to go out to eat, see a movie, attend an event, I recommend calling ahead to check on the wait times, access or availability. This will save you and your loved ones sitting in muggy sticky temps for 90 minutes to get a table and not feel like eating dinner at 9:30pm.

Explore the area, go see more
Go to Petosky, Boyne City, Horton's Bay and if you have time, lovely Traverse City. These are wonderful areas to find shopping bargains, eat delicious nibbles and meet the wonderful people of Michigan. Especially in the Fall season when the color scene is in full bloom. It's a sight to see the oranges, reds, greens, and yellows bursting with life just before falling to rest for a long winter's night.
