Keswick is a large town offering shopping, eating out, museums, theatre by the lake and all surrounded by stunning mountains on the edge of Derwent Water.

This small harbour is very pretty. Great ice cream parlour on the far side of the harbour across the little bridge and the aquarium for wet days with the kids on the near side just over the main bridge. The aquarium also has a great cafe and small gift shop.
Perhaps the best kept secret though is the fishing boats that bring in the catch of the day of which you can buy straight off the boat. Fabulous fresh fish.

The Maryport Marina has had some redevelopment investment recently. There are two marinas next to each other, both have excellent cafes looking out over the boats and marina. I am told you can see otters there and lots of coastal birds. Well worth a stroll around.

This is a newly opened gallery which has works by Lowry, Sheila Fell and Percy Kelly - both of whom loved to paint Maryport. Well worth a visit!

Lingholme Gardens on the Portinscale side is beautiful to visit and a great place to park and walk into Keswick to avoid the crowds. We go here most visits to the lakes as it has great walks for little ones and a good cafe!

Food scene
Tables need to be booked in advance in the train carriage. Food and atmosphered very good. I haven't been personally (as can never get a table) but family members have and say its a fantastic experience. The afternoon teas with Prosecco are highly recommended.
