Beach
Godrevy and Gwithian Beach
A well-known surfing beach, great to go to, even if it isn’t ‘beach weather’! Go around low tide and you can walk from Godrevy all the way to the Hayle estuary. The lighthouse was apparently the inspiration for Virginia Woolf’s “To The Lighthouse”. The car park at Godrevy is a National Trust one, so parking is free for members. Walk round the point to see the seals. You might even be lucky to see a rescued seal being released back into the sea. There are also car parks further along the bay, and several excellent cafes from Godrevy café (this year serving only as a takeaway), Sunset Surf, The Jam Pot and the Blue Bay Café at Sandy Acres. We can thoroughly recommend all of them! If you fancy learning to surf, then there is a choice of schools: Shore Surf, Gwithian Academy of Surf, Global Board Riders and Sandy Acres.
Gwithian is dog-friendly from the Sunset Surf steps, turning left towards Hayle. The Red River Inn is also dog-friendly (DF).
Please be careful to always swim and body board between the red and yellow flags!

Great for a surf when the south coast is working, particularly for long boarders. Views of St Michael's Mount, two great cafes, and on the south-west coastal path.

Great food, including veggie / vegan options. Go for coffee and you'll be tempted by their cakes! Very close to the beach and car park. Portreath can smell quite strongly of seaweed at times - but don't let that put you off.

This is a chain of Fish & Chip Shops. We tend to go to the one in Pool (126-128 Agar Road) as it is nearer. It has got a sit-in restaurant as well as doing take away. We've always had great quality F&Cs from them.
