Look for the boat launch in Claiborne. There is a beach there right from the parking lot. Look for the stairs on the left side of parking when you are driving in. Follow the path through the reeds. It’s a hidden gem! Watch out for the jellyfish when it’s been hot for several days! They sting!

Here are some recommendations for good places to eat. Please call them first to make sure they are open. We have noticed that some places are closed Monday-Wednesday. This may be related to getting the help they need during the COVID crisis. Thank you for your patience.
Two if by Sea
5776 Tilghman Island RdGreat for breakfasts and lunches!
The Tilghman Island Inn is within walking distance from the rental unit. It’s a special treat to sit out on the deck and watch the boat parade. Of course the gourmet food is delicious but on the expensive side.

The outside restaurant called Ticklers is on the water and has great views of the Choptank River. It’s so much fun to have crabs and beer with friends out on the deck. They also have outside fire pits that are great on chilly days. One of the inside bars looks like a traditional waterman’s working boat. Very clever! The food there is very good to excellent and is a bit expensive.

Love the outside eating area here which is on Knapps Narrows. There’s an outside bar and an inside bar with TVs. It has a decent view of the sunset. (The best view of the sunset is the back yard of our rental unit!). The food is good and Marker 5 has a great party vibe!

Great outside deck right next to Knapps Narrows where you can watch the boat parade up close and personal. There’s also an inside bar with a pool table nearby. There’s a great upstairs area for groups which has a great view of the sunset. This is a great place to get oysters when they are in season.

Fishing
While you can fish from the backyard of our townhouse, it is not ideal because there is no dock! Another option which is only 5 minutes away, is to go to the end of Tilghman Island. From our townhouse go down Coopertown Road to the end. Turn right on Tilghman Island Rd. (Rt. 33), and drive as far as you can go, but do not pass the Naval Station satellite. There is an awesome fishing pier right there! We see many fishermen there all the time. Another option...As you are leaving the Naval Station pier, turn right at the stop sign on Fairbank Rd. and drive to the end of the road. You can fish off the dock there. Go to DNR.Maryland.gov for fishing license information.
This is a state park that is popular for fishing, picnicking and hiking along the Choptank River. The pier appears to be a mile long and is adjacent to the Route 50 Bridge (the Frederick C. Malkus Bridge) which leads to Cambridge Maryland. The state park is approximately 45 minutes from Tilghman Island. According to their web site the pier is quite popular because of the variety of fish that can be caught including perch, striped bass, croakers, sea trout and catfish. The address is 29761 Bolinbroke Point Drive, Trappe, MD 21673. The phone number is 410-221-2291. Directions: Take 50 East toward Cambridge. Before the Choptank River Bridge turn left into Bolingbroke Point Rodad. Continue straight to the parking lot.
