Go here for some shopping, the HEB, weekly farmer's market, tennis courts,... For movies: there is a cozy Alamo Drafthouse and Blue Starlite Drive-in (super unique).
There's ample green space, including 30-acre Lake Park, with jogging trails and an open-air amphitheater.

North Loop just across the 35 is a leader in keeping Austin weird. The North Loop is also home to several new restaurants and bars, since you're so close definitely recommend to swing by.
East Austin about a 10min drive, is the hipster neighborhood of Austin (but in the best way possible). Eclectic shops, eateries and boutiques along Lady Bird Lake.

From water activities, shops, and the capitol buildings to museums and galleries.
Just across the bridge is SoCo Ave: Great shopping street with a bunch of charming shops and great bars/restaurants just south of downtown.
The bridge is also the prime spot if you want to see bats flocking in and out around dawn.

It is worth it but if you are overwhelmed by the line - try LA Barbecue. Relatively close by Franklin's, less busy, and definitely one of the best briskets you can find.

Must see natural swimming pool. If you end up renting a Kayak, you are even able to enter the open section of Barton Springs. Perfect on a hot day.
