Eastbourne offers a large stretch of the Sussex coastline. It's about a 35 minute drive away with some areas of free parking for those wanting to see the sea and even go for a swim. It also has plenty of shops and restaurants as well as theatres. At the far western end of the beach you can also make the steep climb onto the downs for some spectacular views.

If you want to eat in Heathfield there's the Heathfield Tavern on the Hailsham Road, the Heathfield Tandoori and Heathes on the high street.
There's also a wealth of takeaways to choose from, most of whom will deliver. There are numerous country pubs all within a short drive of the cottage.
Middle House Hotel at Mayfield offers good pub food with spectacular views. There's also a good delicatessen and a couple of cafes
