The Falkirk wheel is only a 10 minute drive from the house, if you head for the boardwalk restaurant via your sat nav then drive ahead on the roundabout there is ample parking and it's free. Good cafe and lots of activities for children

A great place to visit the most northern frontier of the Roman Empire. Rough castle is one of the forts situated on the Antonine wall. It has lots of information boards and can easily be linked with a walk to the Falkirk wheel

Callendar House is set within the magnificent Calendar Park which has a myriad of walks. The house dates from the 14th century and has gone through many redesigns. It has an interesting museum, which is free and a tea room. There is also a play area for children.

Well worth a visit to see these magnificent structures. You can combine this with a visit to the Helix Park with it's boating pond and play area

Stirling Castle is one of the largest in Scotland and has huge significance historically and architecturally. The streets on the lead up to the castle are old worldly.

The wood is great for walks and it's only a few minutes walk from the house. Just turn left at the top of the drive and walk to the bottom of the hill. Cross the main road and you are there.
