Malta’s former capital city, Mdina was the site of the Roman governor’s palace. Mdina was given the name it goes by today, derived from the Arabic word Medina, which means town or city. The thick, protective walls that shield the city date back to this period.

Palazzo Falson, Mdina’s second-oldest building, was once home to well-travelled artist, scholar and philanthropist Captain Olof Fredrick Gollcher. Since 2001, it has been restored to its former glory and houses an exceptional array of paintings, manuscripts, jewellery and other artefacts.
