Sightseeing
This is a beautiful little riverside village we love to visit. It has pubs on the water, Michelin-star restaurants, and gift shops full of local food products and art.
If you're a book-lover like me, head towards the museum to find the old red telephone box filled with books. Take one and leave on is the rule!
Topsham is about 20 minutes drive away from the house.

Wild swimming
Spitchwick is a local's favourite in the summer for wild swimming. However, it's also a beautiful spot for a riverside walk.

Food scene
A local secret is this old fisherman's pub, that looks out onto the estuary. Great for lunch, choose from fresh mussels or locally-caught fish, washed down with a pint of Devon Red Cider.
There are lots of walks around this area, from Starcross to Dawlish, you can't go wrong - and this pub is right in the middle of the two.

Haytor Rocks is a favourite with the tourists - but for good reason. It's an easy drive, only 40 minutes from our house, and you can park easily at the National Trust car park. Walk up to Haytor Rock and admire the views.
Dogs must be on leads as there are wild ponies, sheep, cows and goats everywhere!

Castle Drogo is a stunning walk, about 45 minutes' drive from our house. The 2.5 hour walk starts at the top of a valley of trees with beautiful views. Walk down to the river at the bottom of the valley and enjoy a pint at the pub at Fingle Bridge. Continue along the river, back up the valley, and finally arrive at the castle and cafe.
Make sure you get back before 3pm on the weekends - otherwise the cafe is closed and you'll end up with some hungry walkers (like we did!).
