Food Scene

Steak House. Do a very good steaks and burgers but the thing they're really famous for is the South African style ribs. If you love meat take advantage of the big portions, so great if you're on a budget ( as you can take half away for lunch the next day) or just hungry!

My favourite high-end, formal dining option. It's a steak house but has plenty of seafood and usually a pretty good selection of vegetarian items. It's owned by one of the judges from New Zealand Masterchef (TV) and quite expensive, so I'd recommend it for a special occasion.

Perfect date spot. Bella Cucina is a formal Italian restaurant. They make all their own pasta from scratch and use a proper stone oven to cook the pizza on. The staff are always super friendly. It's a really small restaurant and very romantic

In a town where everyone is obsessed with Ferg Burger, it's worth popping over to Devil Burger. You'll get pretty much exactly the same product for the same price but you won't have a 40-90 minute wait for your food!

Definitely the best Indian restaurant - trust me, I'm English! Does takeaways but doesn't deliver. The restaurant is quite big, so there's usually a good atmosphere. Ask for the local's deal and get a curry, rice and naan for just $20!

This restaurant showcases the very best that New Zealand cuisine has to offer. Located in at the Amisfield winery, it's is is an absolutely stunning venue but you'll have to either drive or get a taxi - obviously the latter if you plan to enjoy the wine! The menu changes weekly to keep it seasonal but I'd recommend the "Trust The Chef" option where your meal is a surprise and chosen by the chef. It's not the cheapest ($75-$95/head) but very worth it if you want to spoil yourself.

Amazing Polynesian food served as sharing plates. The food is unbelievable and the restaurant has a great vibe and a tiki style cocktail bar.

Drinks & Nightlife

A really great, modern, trendy bar that always has some interesting beers on tap and the best burger in town! They grind their own meat in house and cook everything from scratch. This is a restaurant by day and a busy bar by night, so go there for dinner if you're looking for somewhere casual with a few drinks.
