Offering typical college town venues such as coffee shops, bookstores, ice cream parlors, and pizza, Morehead also hosts boutiques, bakeries, and specialty restaurants alongside favorite chain restaurants and stores, complete with a movie cinema, an antique mall, and an Art Museum.

Lake life
Boat ramps to Cave Run Lake are only a 5-10 min drive from the cabin! Don’t have a boat? Rent one from Scott Creek Marina, a short (and gorgeous) 20 min drive away! Get a double-decker with a slide and bring your poles to catch the Big One while on the lake all day! The lake is located within the scenic Eastern Highlands Region of Kentucky about 60 miles East of Lexington and a short 2 hr drive from Cincinnati. Almost completely surrounded by the northern-most section of the Daniel Boone National Forest. the views are spectacular and the shoreline is pristine! The lake has an 8,270 acre surface area and is about 48 miles long during the summer months, which provides for plenty of recreational water sports and fun!

The marina provides pontoon rentals if you don’t have a boat, but get your reservations soon! This popular summer activity fills up quickly. Nature Day
A beautiful 1 hr drive south along winding country roads, you will find the geological wonder of Red River Gorge. Lucky for us, one of the Gorge's famed sites, the Natural Bridge, is on the near end of the park! Family friendly, hikers can choose to ride the sky lift to the top and hike down or hike to the top on your own.
There are so many great hiking trails throughout the Red River Gorge area, but a must-see is the Natural Bridge! We recommend parking your car, taking the ski lift to the top, then hiking DOWN! The geological formations along the trail are amazing and the forest canopy keeps you cool. Plenty of gift shops in the area with cool souvenir finds for the kiddos, too!

We recommend parking your car, taking the ski lift to the top, then hiking DOWN! The geological formations along the trail are amazing and the forest canopy keeps you cool. Beach Day
No boat, but have tweens or young children who like to swim? Spend some time at the beach on Cave Run Lake, located in the Twin Knobs campground! A small fee to register your car for the day in the park will get you parking,

Located near the Beach isThe Twin Knobs store, which is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., 7 days a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Your one stop shop to purchase food, floats, ice, candy, and ice cream will keep your family content for the day! Bring your beach towels, cooler, bag chairs, and sunscreen and have fun for the day! (Call first to make sure the beach is open; sometimes flooding may unexpectedly alter availability).

Sightseeing and Fishing Spot
Find out what it’s like on the back side of the dam which holds the water in the man-made Cave Run Lake by driving over the dam and parking in the park at its spillway! Not only is this also a great fishing spot, but kids will love to stand above the spillway as the water rushes out of the dam! Expect to see deer and a beautiful sunset at the end of your day.
