The closest formal entrance is in West Yellowstone, however there are trails off of highway 191 on the way to West Yellowstone that are in the park and offer beautiful hikes but without the crowds.

If you missed seeing bears and wolves in the park, this is an excellent alternative. If you're there at the right time, the captive wolves sometimes howl with the wolves in the park. It is an incredible sound!
