Sightseeing

Great area for dog walking, lots of mountain bike features, very kid friendly, and there’s an entrance just across the street! Look for the yellow post along Mackenzie and take the trail between the houses.

Great playground and outdoor gym facilities, there’s also often events happening here. A great easily accessible walk along the trail with interpretive audio guide available and lots of historic logging equipment to see (and play on for the kids).

Park at the lot at the top of Haslam Lake Road where it turns into gravel and spend some time exploring the woods and lake! Bring a swim suit on a hot day, or put in a kayak or paddle board at the boat launch which can be found by turning right towards Duck Lake Road then taking a left onto the access road. The boat launch is marked on the right.

Bring a bathing suit!

There’s a ton of swimming options available here. Anywhere you can access the ocean, lakes, or rivers are great places for a dip. Some you may have to hike a little bit to, but it’s almost always worth it! Some of my favorite spots are second beach (on the ocean), Haslam Lake, and the falls under the highway at Lois River (locally known as Eagle River Falls). Mahood’s Beach is a great sand beach to spend the day as well!

Lots of playgrounds and kid friendly parks!

There’s a ton of kid friendly parks and playgrounds in town. Willingdon Beach is a great place to start, with lots of parking, stroller accessible trails, and a great playground, there’s even a play fountain in the summer! Larry Gouthro Park is also nearby with a playground and disc golf. Grief Point Park is the closest easy beach access with a playground, and the Seawalk is an easy stroller walk accessible from various points along Marine Ave. Mahood’s Beach is a great spot to spend the day on a sandy beach with a great view!
