Established over 200 years ago as a fishing community, then a mining town from 1975 to 1990. Just over 200 souls now, many retired, some still fishing, mining in faraway places, the town is home to 1000 acre dairy farm, big game outfitters, school, church, post office, lawyer, general and liquor store, motel and weather station. Bennett House is a Provincial Historic site. The cemetery which is final resting place of renowned fiddler, Rufus Guinchard OC, and celebrated nurse, Myra M. Bennett, MBE, OC, LLD, also features a monument to West Ray miner, Randy House.

Live theatre at Cow Head is world class.
Watch out for moose and caribou on the highway. Slow down after dark. Always stop. They are large and unpredictable. Visit Bennett House, Provincial Historic Site at Daniel's Harbour. View the huge landslide that halved the town. Be careful. As well as being unpromoted, and a geological anomaly (likely glacier clay) it's unprotected and a potential fall hazard for the unwary.
