Sightseeing

South Cape May Meadows is a nature preserve located on what once was South Cape May. It's a great place for walking and observing wildlife, especially migrating birds. There are many walking trails and a few that lead right down to the Beach. This preserve also has walking trails that connect to the Cape May Point State Park, another favorite of ours. We frequent The Meadows year-round and it is always beautiful! It's located just 1.5 miles away from the Bungalow- we enjoy biking or driving, or even taking the walk over when we have extra time.

Higbee Beach is a uniquely situated wildlife management area with beautiful winding trails throughout it's series of fields and forests, some of which lead to the Delaware Bay and beach. These trails are perfect for bird-watching year-round but especially during the spring and fall migration periods. If you're up for it and the tide is low, you can even walk all the way to Sunset Beach. This is a great spot for searching for sea glass, rocks and Cape May Diamonds (clear quartz that has been naturally tumbled by the tide.) This is also the only dog-friendly beach on the Island. Make sure you leash your dog if it does not do well with other dogs, as you are sure to see other people’s dogs off-leash.

The Cape May Point State Park offers walking many nature walking trails, beaches, an exhibit gallery (with events throughout the summer season) and the Lighthouse. If you're feeling up for it, you can climb the 217 steps to see gorgeous panoramic views of the County. This is one of our favorite places to visit on the Island, and is great for young kids and adults alike.

The Garrett Family Preserve is another favorite of ours. Located within walking distance of the Bungalow, we enjoy coming here for the trails year round. In the Spring and Summer months, this place really shines- there are fields of wildflowers that attract birds and pollinators of all kinds.
