With a cook book out this place is so popular. Take a look in advance at their website before your trip as they do big cook ups during the summer months in the evenings which are ticketed but fantastic events. The dahl is my favourite.

Twenty-five years ago, Heligan’s historic gardens were unknown and unseen; lost under a tangle of weeds. It was only the chance discovery of a door in the ruins that led to the restoration of this once great estate. Today, The Lost Gardens have been put back where they belong: in pride of place among the finest gardens in Cornwall and with 200 acres to explore you can spend all day there.

The harbour at Portloe has a tiny beach and you can swim there and sit on the rocks watching the fishing boats. You can fish yourself off the rocks nearby. The South West Coast Path runs by the harbour and you can walk the cliffs and see spectacular views in either direction. Lovely place for dogs to swim too.

This is the best beach and at low tide you can walk along the sand to Pendower Beach. There are rock pools and great sand for making sandcastles. You can find your own spot and be really private too. From the house you can walk there if you are fairly fit. In any event you can reward yourself with a crab sandwich and a glass of wine n the terrace at The Nare after a walk or just sunbathe.
