Neighbourhoods

We love North Melbourne because it is close to everything: amazing parkland that makes you feel like you're in the middle of no where, but also close proximity to hospitals, universities, and a quick trip to the city. Within 5 minutes walk from the townhouse, you can get to the park, supermarkets, laundry, and a few eateries on Melrose Street. Errol Street, Queensberry Street, and Leveson Street are also spots nearby for restaurants and cafes. A few local favourites are: Auction Room Roasting Warehouse Beatrix Bakes Bread Club Palette (and Palette at Night) There are a tonne of other places in that area. Thyme Square Cafe and Jaspresso are also very good (both on Flemington Road). Alternatively, you can explore Kensington and Flemington areas, which are also easily accessible on foot or by tram. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, Footscray have great food - the best Ethiopian and Vietnamese, probably. In the city, you will find every kind of cuisine you're thinking about. If you're craving something, contact us and we might have a recommendation.

4 seasons in 1 day

Melbourne weather is famously unpredictable. Recommend packing some wet weather clothes and layers! The room has heater and electric blanket etc. If you need more, let us know. Layering is your best friend!

Useful apps for getting around

From the airport, we suggest Uber. There is also the SkyBus Airport Express. You'll need to get to Southern Cross Station, and then get the train/walk or get a taxi from there. Uber is just easier. Other car apps that's useful in Melbourne: Ola, Didi. Although we find Ola/Uber the best. Didi can be cheaper but sometimes the app doesn't work. You can also try Lime/Uber and other e-scooters which are everywhere now. Melbourne is relatively safe but for bikes and scooters, you are legally required to wear a helmet.

Queen Victoria Market

This is THE market in Melbourne - best produce at great prices. Fresh food, Australiana, souvenirs, and events! Follow them on social media or Google for all sorts of festivals and events. A walk or tram ride away.

At the airport...

There is free Wifi at Melbourne airport, train stations, and in the city. If you don't have a local sim card, suggest you use these opportunities to download information and directions. Highly recommend a local SIM card with data, so that life is generally easier and safer.
