Castle StreetIt is important to check the tides for Llandwyn Island; it is best to go when the tide is halfway out so it gives you ample time to visit the 'island' which is beautiful with an old lighthouse at the end, a cross and archway remains of a ruined abbey and lovely little sandy coves, some with lava pillows from ancient volcanic eruptions. Looking south from there you can see Yr Eifl, the three peaks behind Trefor!

A beautiful sandy beach with a cafe at one end. National Trust Car Park. It's also known as Whistling Sands as the dry sand 'whistles' when you walk over it in bare feet! If it is windy, it is a good beach for body boarding.

This beach is on a farmer's land, so you follow an unmade up drive to the farm where you pay £5 for the day. You then continue down the track and park in a field above the sandy 'cliffs' above the inlet. It is stunning, with a narrow sandy beach and rocky sides going out to sea. I should warn you that the paths leading down to the beach from the parking are fairly steep as well as being sandy!

Abersoch used to be a quiet, picturesque fishing village, but although it remains picturesque, it is no longer quiet in summer! It now has multi million houses and many second homes, together with gastropubs, restaurants and a selection of clothes shops.

A pretty sheltered beach, but if you want to buy a beach hut, it could cost you £250,000!!
The village and church are worth a visit too, as is Plas Glyn-y-Weddw which is an art gallery, also with a cafe.

A small island off the end of the Llyn Peninsular.
Bardsey Island lies some 3km (2 miles) off the coast of the Llyn Peninsula, in Northwest Wales, and is internationally renowned for its wealth of wildlife. The island is home to hundreds of beautiful and in some instances rare species including lichens, liverworts and mosses.
Bardsey also has spectacular seabird life, and many bird species nest on the island's sea cliff ledges and other protected habitats. Manx Shearwaters (Puffinus puffinus) arrive by the thousand each year to breed and raise their young on the Bardsey.
If history and archaeology are of interest to you then Bardsey has a lot to offer. The most prominent monument on the island is a thirteenth-century Abbey Tower, but many earth structures have also been found some of which date back two- or three-thousand years. Round huts and rectangular structures are present on the island, and they appear to have been farm buildings dating back to the Middle Ages.
There is a legend that Bardsey is the last resting ground of twenty-thousand saints. Some must have come from outside Wales, surely! There are many graves in and around the Abbey, although nowhere near the number required to give credence to this legend.
There is a regular boat service during the summer, but trips are dependent on good weather and may be subject to cancellation.
Booking is advisable, but I am unable to put the phone number here! Check out Bardsey Island boat trips on the internet.

I suggest you research Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park on the internet, as there is too much information for me to include it!
If you are intending to climb Yr Wyddfa (formerly known as Mount Snowdon), the highest mountain in Wales, pay particular attention to the advice given on the Eryri website as many people get caught out by the mountain weather for which they are often totally unprepared. However, when I looked today, it said that the cafe/visitor centre/gift shop, Hafod Eryri, at the top is still closed - it's now open!
Hafod Eryri opens daily from late Spring to the end of October from 10am daily (weather permitting) and will close 20 minutes before the last train leaves the summit. On bad weather days and when access to the summit via train is not possible, Hafod Eryri will remain closed. Visit our FB page.
