Nice area for a walk (or run) in more rural surroundings and different art pieces along the way. Amazing view over the city as well. Have some drinks or something to eat at the funkis style Ekeberg restaurant, or if you visit in daytime, go to the more old classic style Karlsborg spiseforretning for coffee/tea ,sandwiches and pastries. If you go with kids, it is a very nice play area outside. My kids love it!

Go to Aker Brygge and take the small ferry out to Hovedøya (or some of the other islands). Great for just a walk, picnic, or beach day; if the weather is nice. Shallow water at the beach, so great for kids. Old monastery to look at too, and a café in summertime and in weekends,

Oslo´s largest and nicest park. Visit the Vigeland museum and see all the statues. Grab a bite at one of the cafes or have a picnic. Frognerbadet is also right next to the park where you can swim in the pool and play (they have a water slide as well). Can be crowded on nicer days. You have to pay a fee to enter.

Brand new main library in Oslo. Many floors with tons of books in many languages and of all kinds. Also a small cinema for kids (on selected days) and play areas. Many places to sit and relax with a book, your phone or computer. Great view over the harbour as well. Open all days. They have a cafe on top of the library too.

Strand/bading
Large area for swimming and sunbathing. They also have a small beach with shallow water for kids. Recommend going to Paradis is for Italian gelato, or for a cheaper option, just grab an ice cream at Rema 1000 or Coop Prix (grocery stores). To eat, I think Bun´s Burger is a good option. The area can get very crowded on sunny days.

If you like a sandy beach, this is the best beach in Oslo, I my opinion. My favorite is the part farthest away from the city center. The other part also has a section of grass and is closer to to toilets and a small kiosk. Get here by car, bike or by bus 88 Ingierstrand (from Bjørvika)

Nice for a swim in very urban surroundings. Only suitable for people who can swim. You must dive or climb right into the ocean. Can be combined with the Much museum, a café or restaurant visit or (expensive) shopping. If you like doughnuts go to Talormade for cute doughnuts and a matcha latte, coffee or lemonade.

For the view I would recommend Ekeberg restauranten (a short uphill walk from the apartment/ or tram ride). Personally I am not swept away by their food, but it is more than okay.

An old working class neighborhood that has grown into a very busy and trendy part of the city with lots of cafés, bars, restaurants and small shops of all kinds. I the later years it has become more commercialized with some larger chains like H&M and McDonalds.

Walk/bike around the city or use public transport
Oslo is not a very big city and it is actually possible to walk (or bike) most places in the central parts of town. In fact you can walk from Gamlebyen to Majorstuen and Frogner (Frognerparken) in about 45-60 minutes depending on how fast you walk. If you get tired you can always jump on the tram or bus.
Tram 19 and 13 from "Oslo hospital" goes up to Ekeberg (Ljabru) or to the city centre, Majorstua and Frogner (Majorstuen, Bekkestua). From the next tram stop "Middelalderparken" you can take several buses that goes around town. At "Bjørvika/Jernbanetorget" you can go anywhere you like.

How to save money on food
If you want to eat out, most restaurants offer almost the same menu for lunch at a cheaper price. Lunch usually lasts til 15/16/17 p.m.
The cheapest grocery stores are Kiwi and Rema 1000. Meny is a little more expensive but also offer a greater selection and they also have fresh dishes that you can eat right away. Great to bring for a picnic. Bunnpris and Joker and Coop Prix is more expensive and to be avoided if you want to save money.

Drink tap water
Water is very clean in Norway, so you can drink tap water and refill your bottle anywhere. Tap water is also free at restaurants.
No need to waste your money on buying water! Tap water tastes exactly the same!
