Island Activities

Of all of the "ZOOS" or sanctuary's on the island, we find Daniel Johnson's Hang Out to be the most ethical and best experience.

There are an abundance of dive shops on the island and all have access to the same dive sites maintained by the Roatan Marine Park! We recommend diving with Sun Divers, a PADI dive shop located at the other end of West End Village. They offer Discover Scuba Diving Experience for non- certified divers to try it out, full courses for those looking to earn certification, and 3-4 fun dives per day for certified divers to explore the reef with an experienced guide! They also rent snorkel equipment if you prefer to explore on your own!

Bring Cash!

Majority of Restaurants/businesses in West End only accept CASH as payment, in US dollars or Honduran Lempiras, (commonly referred to as “lemps”). If you are able to bring USD to the island with you, make sure you bring $20 bills or smaller and they need to be in MINT condition. No bills with writing, tears or other damage will be accepted. Alternatively you can get Honduran Lempiras out of ATMs here in Roatan. There are 2 safe ATMs for use in the PetroSun gas station at the entrance to West End. Generally 25 Lempira= $1 USD (this rate fluctuates a bit). Otherwise some places also accept cards

Taxis or Car Rental?

We do not arrange arrival transportation. You will receive contacts for drivers upon booking. Otherwise expect to pay $25 to any taxi from the airport to West end, specifically tell them "Sunset Villas, in west end.” Rental Cars are also available on the island between $50-$100 per day. Truly, once you are in West End, you can walk almost everywhere! Dozens of restaurants and dive shops, small convenience stores, the beach, etc.

Get in the water!

Whether diving or snorkeling, you'll miss out on the BEST parts of Roatan if you don't get in the water and explore the reef!
