Food scene

Broadstairs has some great food on offer.
A bistro that has become a real Broadstairs success since opening in 2021. The location is amazing - one of the few places to be able to take advantage of any sunshine from morning to evening. Wonderful views over Viking Bay and beyond and in the winter it can be spectacular when a storm rages around the harbour arm!

A restaurant that really has gained a local following for great food and a good atmosphere. A fabulous selection of dishes made from locally sourced products. All dishes are gluten free (as the owner has to follow that diet) Not cheap but delicious.

A change of name in the last 12 months but still a Broadstairs foodie highlight - one of a number of Thanet based restaurants to feature in the Michelin Guide. Sharing Plates - quite expensive (but that’s to be expected!)

Beach life

A little less hectic than Viking Bay. In the summer months The Hut serves a good selecion of food and drink - in 2023 Namaka are catering from there. Off-season the walk on the beach is wonderful and at low tide it's well worth carrying on towards Joss, Kingsgate and Botany Bays or as far as Margate if you have the energy!

Newly named (used to be The Thirty Nine Steps) and run by Mitch, who also owns The Bottleneck off-license, this magnificent building has a fresh start and a more contemporary outlook. Craft beers and high quality wines - it’s a free house so all curated by Mitch and his team.

Shops, stores

A real gem of a clothing store, quality products for women and a smaller selection for men and kids. The basement has discounted items - well worth a browse! Little Kit for kidswear and beach related items (such as swimwear) is to be found on Eldon Passage.

A great collection of wines, beers and spirits - lots of independent breweries and local vineyards are represented. You can buy a chilled wine from here and then take it to the beach, or a bench on the the jetty, for a picnic or fish and chips!

City/town information

One of our favourite walks is along the beach at low tide to Ramsgate. Then a coffee or a bite to eat somewhere on the harbour or brunch at the Modern Boulangerie. Discover the Georgian achitecture around Paragon and Spencer Square and the shops of Addington Street. Return along Victoria Parade and King George VI Memorial Park via Dumpton Gap back to Viking Bay.

Margate is easily reached by train (1 short stop) or the Loop bus. There's the Viking trail for cyclists or walkers - and when the tide is right a walk along the beach to Margate is a spectacular one via Joss, Kingsgate and Botany Bays. You will be greeted by a town of real character. The old town is like a movie set with lots of fabulous restaurants and independant shops - and art galleries. Cliftonville is vibey with some very cool bars, restaurants and cafes - and there is the Turner Gallery by the Harbour arm as well as a stretch of glorious sand. For food we love Pomus, Dory’s, Sargasso, Streets, The Good Egg, Bottega Carouso - and for cocktails find Daisy and Dukes! But these are just a few - we haven’t yet tried them all!
