Another place to buy Native art and crafts (where the money goes directly to the artist) is at the gift shop in the Alaska Native Medical Center (4315 Diplomacy Drive). Sounds odd to shop at a hospital but it is a popular place to buy beautiful things made by Native Alaskans.

Safety
SAFETY:
It’s very important to be sure you have the proper safety information so you know what to do while you are out in the Alaskan wilderness. Bears and moose are very common here, please keep the following in mind during your visit:
1. You may see bear, moose, lynx and more in and around the property.
2. NEVER approach bears, moose, or any other animals, especially if they are with young.
3. ALWAYS take bear spray on hikes/walks (even just in the neighborhood) and make sure you know how to use it. Keep it somewhere easily accessible. Costco usually has the best deals on bear spray
