No need to book, just drop in. The People’s Palace is set in historic Glasgow Green. It is home to a collection of objects, photographs, prints and film which give a unique view into how Glaswegians lived, worked and played in years gone by to the present day. The top floor of the museum is now open. Some of the objects you may expect to see – the Ken Currie paintings and the trade unions banners – will not be on display at this time. They have been on show for more than 20 years and are being safely cleaned by conservators. The café is open next to the museum shop, serving hot and cold drinks, light lunches and a range of sweet treats.

Food scene

I love Cottiers and it’s at the foot of Partickhill Road. Great little theatre, lovely restaurant upstairs and smashing pub food at ground level. Fantastic outdoor seating. Very child and dog-friendly!

Excellent for coffee and cake or a glass of wine. I wouldn’t recommend this place for dinner as I’ve been let down on a few occasions. Great atmosphere with huge windows for watching the world go by. Also a 5 minute walk from the flat.

My favourite Indian restaurant. You can’t book. Just turn up but be prepared to queue at busy times. I’d recommend lunchtime midweek. It’s more of an Indian tapas so order 2/3 dishes.

I’d just opt for the gorgeous fish and chips here as it’s fantastic and great value. Otherwise I think it’s overpriced for very small portions. Apparently David Beckham raved about his fish and chips!

Pub

Ben Nevis stocks the finest range of whisky and is popular with all age groups. It is small and cosy.
It just does what it says-great bar , no food and live traditional Scottish folk music on some evenings. ... Incredible pub with a great selection of whisky.

Time Out says Smart, traditional boozer with a faithful following. Stained glass windows add an old-world feel, as do regular folk music sessions Named after a small Hebridean island, this self-styled ‘Highland pub in the middle of Glasgow’ resists the trend for gentrification in West End watering holes by keeping it old-school: good beer and whisky, good atmosphere and a little traditional music. Opened in 1996, well before Partick Cross started to experience a trendy resurgence following its post-shipbuilding industry slump, The Lismore has built up and maintains a mixed and faithful clientele – from students enjoying better-than-average prices to hardy silver-haired drinkers getting in a cheeky hauf an’ a hauf (a vintage Scots standard, a half-pint of beer and a ‘half gill’ measure of whisky, drunk in tandem).
