Old Hall Marshes comprises extensive grazing marshes with brackish water fleets, reedbeds, saltmarsh and two off-shore islands. Breeding species here include avocet, lapwing, redshank, pochard, shoveler and bearded tit.

Beautiful dog friendly nature reserve - they ask you to keep dogs on the leash if you see cattle but otherwise they can roam free.

Stunning nature reserve and reservoir with a lovely cafe and shop too. The reserve itself isn’t dog friendly but you can park there for free and take a couple of dog paths around the reservoir (sign posted) which are very nice

I think this is the best fish and chips on the island. The home made crab cakes are also delicious ; as are the salt, chilli and pepper cod bites!

Another favourite of mine which is also dog friendly (let them know you’re coming with a dog so they can give you the dog friendly table or you can sit outside). The wine list here is exceptional and really thought out. The food is also fantastic! They also make a very good espresso martini.

A fantastic place to go for lunch. This is a very popular place and people come from London for the day to eat here. Highly recommend booking in advance or go for some take out. This is a truly unique place - not to be missed. They fish all their fish fresh each day and the restaurant is run by a local fisherman’s family. They also serve local mersea wine from the vineyard!

Search high tide before arriving
Search high tide mersea island to save waiting an hour or so. Thankfully there is a lovely pub you can wait in - the peldon rose if you get caught out! If the tide is 3.5M or above, the road will likely be flooded for up to 1 hour.
