Book restaurants in town and on the slopes in advance
Zermatt is a busy place during the ski season, summer and music weeks. Highly recommend you book your restaurant reservations online or calling weeks in advance during the year end period for in town and on the slope dining.

Walking around Zermatt is wonderful.
Zermatt is a car free town (except for doctors and police cars). Walking is the best ways to get around. E-Buses can take you to ski lifts but most people walk as the distances are easily manageable. There are a lot of bikes (even in winter) and Elektro vans and taxis for transporting goods and people.

Walking and recycling
Zermatt prides itself for walking paths around town and on the mountains. Walkers, hikers and bicyclists share the paths, sometimes with sheep!
Glass, paper and metal can be recycled in special containers. Household garbage needs to be placed in the orange garbage bags and placed in the large black compressors / bins. Kitchen (food) waste is collected in the white bins and pet bottles can be returned at Migros, Coop and selected recycling centers throughout town.

Wolli
Zermatt's mascot, Wolli, is at the train station for photo ops.
At Sunega there is a Wolli ski center for beginners: children and adults. In summertime the Leisee just below Sunega offers swimming, games and a float (NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY) and a natural adventure park. Bring your own picnic.

Take the train and enjoy the ride
Getting to Zermatt by train is easy. Direct access from Visp. Seat reservations are recommended during peak season.
Car access to Zermatt is by permit only (apartment owners and full time residents) so if you are driving please park in Täsch and take the shuttle train up (no reservation needed). Reserving a parking space in the underground parking Matterhorn Terminal Täsch is advisable from their website.
