Pisa doesn't really need introducing because of its famous Leaning Tower. Less well-known features are the other two leaning towers, the very beautiful Miracles Square and the Mural by the pioneering graffiti artist, Keith Haring. Le Piagge is a tree lined avenue along the Arno river, perfect for relaxing in summer. There are many festivities in the town centre during the month of May, and for visitors from October to February the Palazzo Blu has internationally renown art exhibitions.

San Gimignano is a walled hill town most famous for the skyline of its medieval tower houses. Most of its medieval architecture remains intact and the centre is a UNESCO world heritage site. The Duomo di San Gimignano is a 12th-century church with frescoes by Ghirlandaio in its Santa Fina Chapel. It is a very pleasant place to stroll around, although it is very popular with tourists. It is set in a beautiful undulating countryside, within 45 kilometres of both Volterra and Siena.
