This is an amazing site to visit where The Narragansett Indian Tribe of Rhode Island, under the leadership of Chief Miantonomo, attempted to defeat the Mohegan Indian Tribe under the leadership of Chief Uncas. Rather than surrender to the Mohegan chief, the Narragansett Indians leapt to their deaths. Miantonomo survived the leap but was later executed. A monument to mark the area where Miantonomo was captured is in Norwich off of Boswell Ave, on Elijas St.
