Sightseeing
It's a quick walk from the Cottage: cross the highway and head for the bluffs, from which Bluff derived its name. Those bluffs glow in a special way at sunrise and sunset - incredible range of colors in the redrock walls that line the San Juan River at this particular section.

We can direct you to a little-known turnout where a 2-minute walk will bring you to stunningly beautiful vistas - all the way into Colorado (Sleeping Ute mountain, for example).

Not only is the Hat Rock and surrounding countryside unusual and beautiful, but you'll find absolutely terrific Navajo Tacos at the Restaurant right at the bridge. Keep going straight, instead of crossing the river... and head for a window table where you can watch the San Juan River - and probably rafters - flow and float by, below.

Parks & Nature
The roads and pull-outs here are very well designed, to provide views of these incredible, naturally formed "bridges", from very near your vehicle - ideal for people who cannot walk far. For the more adventurous, you can hike all the way down into the canyon.

Arts & Culture
Bluff Great House. Another easy stroll from the Cottage. Head north, following the road up the hill towards the cemetary - which, in itself, is interesting - but before you get there, you'll find the ruins of a pueblan style "great house" that had 4 kivas and many rooms... as well as a magnificent view to the north, of Locomotive Rock, and Cottonwood Canyon.

Essentials
Most of the basic groceries you might need. Keep in mind Utah's liquor laws - only 2% beer here, or bring your favorite brew from elsewhere. Greater selection of groceries and fresh produce is at Clarks Market in Blanding - 20 minute drive north... and also a very good laundromat in Blanding!
