The Rijksmuseum is Amsterdam's Louvre, its Metropolitan, and on par with both. It was fabulously restored in 2013. If you're interested in art, it is a must-see.

This place is brand-new, hardly on maps. An old tram station is being converted into a neighborhood hub, housing shops, bars, restaurants and a cinema while retaining the feel of the old tram storage.
