Diocletian Palace is one of the best preserved monuments of the Roman architecture in the world. The Emperor's Palace was built as a combination of a luxury villa - summer house and a Roman military camp (castrum), divided into four parts with two main streets. Southern part of the Palace was, in this scheme, intended for the Emperor's apartment and appropriate governmental and religious ceremonies, while the north part was for the Imperial guard - the military, servants, storage etc. The Palace is a rectangular building (approximately 215 x 180 meters) with four large towers at the corners, doors on each of the four sides and four small towers on the walls.

You will often hear that the people of Split like to call their city "the most beautiful in the world". To get the perfect match, just add the mentality of its inhabitants who are always ready for song and joke…
The trademarks of the city are certainly Diocletian's Palace and the bell tower of the Cathedral of St. Duje. It is an unambiguous and unique association with the city. Where else in the world do you have a palace from the Roman period that exudes life, and for which you do not need to pay a ticket?

The fish market (PEŠKARIJA) is one of the central points of city life in Split, but also an interesting architectural monument, built more than 120 years ago in the Art Nouveau style. But its significance for the people of Split goes beyond that "physical" dimension. Everything that the Adriatic Sea offers comes to its tables, from sprats, sorghum, sardines, mackerel to fallen groupers, dentex, perch, sea bass, lobster, shellfish ... The only thing missing are flies, which obviously do not like the smell of sulfur from neighboring spas , due to which Diocletian, burdened with rheumatism, built his palace there. Again, just like in Pazar, at the fish market or - as the people of Split call it - peškarija, you will always feel the belonging of Split and Dalmatia to the Mediterranean and its culture and civilization.
The Split fish market (PEŠKARIJA) has long been too small for Split, but it is too valuable to preserve the city spirit for anyone to give up. The guests of Split also know that, who will come to the fish market for their "portion" of the soul of Split.
