Brighton is full of incredible, unique independents, so I don't often see the appeal in opting for a chain... but I'll gladly make an exception for The Ivy in the Lanes. Located in the Old Post Office, it is a cavernous space always brimming with guests and has unapologetically over the top opulence, with blinging crystal, gold, and floral designs. If you've got something special to celebrate, look no further.

This was an old, cheap, Brighton boozer in the heart of the otherwise achingly trendy North Laine, and held out as the last genuinely rough and ready local in the area... until last year when it had a facelift to become what is now perhaps the most trendy bar in the whole neighbourhood. Until a year or so ago, this was one of the last ‘old-mans’ boozers left in the North Laine. But as with the rest of the neighbourhood, gentrification was inevitable. It is now one of the coolest pubs in the area. With a young, fun, crowd and plenty of independent brewery beers on tap.
