Originally built as the Nashville building for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition in 1897, the Parthenon is the world's only full-scale replica of the ancient Parthenon in Athens, Greece. It hearkens back to Nashville's previous reputation as "The Athens of the South", long before the Music City moniker, because of the many colleges and universities that are located here. It remains the centerpiece of Centennial Park in west Nashville and is now a museum and event space. It's open to the public for tours and houses a 41-foot tall statue of Athena, the largest indoor sculpture in the western world.
