Food Scene
This is on the expensive side but fun for a special occasion. Try the grilled ahi, the tomato salad or the seafood scampi with udon noodles. During surf season you can't miss the pro surfers that frequently have industry dinners here. They are also one of the only restaurants that take reservations, which is recommended.

Great acai bowls and smoothies with a smile. Also try their truck parked across from Sunset Beach Elementary school most days if you want to ride a bike from the cottage.

Nice steak and seafood restaurant overlooking the harbor that is less expensive than Leilei's. They have affordable salad options like my husband's favorite grilled Sumatran beef salad or great happy hour prices on most of their appetizers. Happy hour is 4:30-6, M-F.

Great family owned breakfast place that has been serving the North shore for thirty years (with little changes). You will be sure to see owner Ducan making espresso drinks, one of his daughters making waffles or his wife waiting tables. Try the breakfast barrel or the waffles!

This new coffee place has won me over with their excellent breakfast menu that offers less traditional breakfast. I love their lox and bagel plate or their breakfast plate. Parking can be difficult be cause the lot is usually full.

Great vegetarian cafe, with vegan baked items, fresh juices and more. Only open for lunch but I suspect they will be open for dinner one day soon. Try their portobello sandwich, so good.

Another awesome family owned and run business. They have great sandwiches, try their turkey and cranberry which includes fresh cooked turkey instead of processed turkey meat. For a special treat, it's hard to do better than their Coco Joe shake.

Parks & Nature
This beautiful valley was a home to ancient Hawaiians and has many botanical treasures. You can walk down the bottom part of the park for free but to fully enjoy the valley you have to pay to enter. There is a restaurant up there where you can enjoy a grass fed burger before entering the park. If you plan to pay to enter, don't forget your bathing suit so you can take a dip up at the waterfall if a lifeguard is on duty.

My favorite beach. During the summer it is normal to see dolphins playing just outside the bay. The season matters for Waimea, during the winter this can be a dangerous beach break with huge waves but during the summer this beach is like a giant beautiful swimming pool. Always check with the lifeguards if you have any questions about the conditions and follow all beach warning signs. PArking can be difficult. You can park at the church during the week for free or pay $5 on the weekends or try your luck at the parking lot if you arrive their early enough. I usually ride my bike but make sure to lock it!
