Ok it is a Wetherspoons but the building is great, walk through to the orangery for the best bit - they have beer festivals from time to time too. Huge beer garden. Also close to Exeter St Davids Station so catch the train from Topsham and enjoy a few cheap beers!

Sightseeing

Iconic building, more interesting outside than inside. The cathedral green is a great place for al-fresco lunch, or visit the Christmas market during December.

One of the oldest canals in the country the Ship Canal offers many opportunities for walking, cycling, paddle boarding and fishing. From Topsham you can take the little ferry by the passage house across the River Exe to it (check times), from here you can walk the mile or so to the Turf locks for drinks and food and amazing views. With a bike you can go further on to Powderham Castle, the Anchor at Cockwood, Dawlish Warren, over the hill to Dawlish town and even Coryton Cove (great cafe' and pizza place - take cash) and be prepared to carry your bike over the bridge over the railway line. You can use the train to get back to Marsh Barton or vice-versa. If you head North you can visit the Double Locks and Exeter Quay. You can paddleboard/kayak the whole route (no licence required) and hire facilities can be found at the Exeter End (e.g. Kayak Hub).

A lovely drive up onto the moor. Two car parks depending how far you want to walk. Walk up and around the rocks, longer walks in this area. You will often see ponies. Grassy areas for a picnic. Great views on a clear day.
