The Appalachian Trail, Max Patch, and Harmon Den (spectacular bald with many hiking options, 7 miles from here) are most easily accessed off of Max Patch Rd. From the cabin, turn left onto Caldwell Mountain Road and right onto Meadow Fork Rd. After 1.75 miles, turn left onto SSR1181, Little Creek Rd which quickly becomes gravel. Follow Little Creek Rd for 3 miles to the intersection with Max Patch Rd. Turn right onto Max Patch Rd and the parking lot of the Max Patch trailhead will be on the right after about 1.5 miles.

Spring Creek (running along Hwy 209) and Meadow Fork Creek (runs along Meadow Fork Rd) are both scenic creek with rocks and waterfalls and can be accessed from various spots.
Secret Spring Creek swimming hole: Leaving the gate, turn right onto Caldwell Mtn Rd. Turn left onto Hwy 209.
After 6.4 miles, turn right onto Puncheon Camp Rd. Park on the left just before a bridge. Hike up a trail to the north from the parking area. The best swimming hole is about .25 miles up the trail. Depart the trail to the right and trek down to the creek.
