Chinatown Food Walk: Tea & Dim Sum
When was the last time you had a dim sum that was so delicious you dreamt about it for weeks? On our Chinatown food tour, you’ll see the world’s first fortune cookie factory, taste different kinds of dim sum and tea, and learn how Chinese immigrants made it to the Bay.
HIGHLIGHTS
+ Stories of the Gold Rush and Chinese immigration
+ Taste food from a 100yo Restaurant
+ Sip on delicious bubble tea
+ Snack at a local bakery
+ Visit the fortune cookie factory
+ Eat a dim sum feast
+ Learn and taste all about Chinese tea
Our tasty adventure starts in the heart of Chinatown with Dim Sum. Ready to take on the day, we check out the fortune cookie factory and take a peek inside! Next, we stroll down the street of the infamous 10-cent haircut and learn how sailors journeyed here in hopes of the American dream.
But wait, the adventure doesn’t stop there! Next, we’ll check out the oldest bakery in Chinatown, a church that survived the 1906 earthquake, the oldest temples in the USA, all while sipping some delicious bubble tea.
As we approach our final hour, we head to a local tea shop and learn about the role of tea in traditional Chinese medicine with a 30-minute tasting.
Feeling warm, we head to our last stop to learn about the Gold Rush, in the exact spot it all started! Here we taste a local pork roll from one of the oldest restaurants in town.
LGBTQ Castro Tours
Explore the largest sexual and gender diverse community in the world and cruise the Castro like a local on this fun and fascinating two-hour LGBTQ cultural walk. As a long-time resident and civil rights activist, I'll show you why diversity is celebrated as we meet real people with real stories in this beautiful village of rainbows. Offering the most comprehensive LGBTQ tour in the world, you'll visit twice as many historical sites than any other tour experience. Discover how the Gold Rush, World War II, civil rights leader Harvey Milk, the AIDS epidemic, and the Rainbow Honor Walk created such a strong and progressive LGBTQ community. Learn how LGBTQ equality and civil rights are still being fought for in the United States today.
Private groups of 10 or more can be accommodated on a request basis and are subject to availability.
Other things to note
Fortunately, San Francisco's weather is mostly mild year round so tours operate rain or shine. Please dress accordingly. Our route is easy, with no large hills and is handicapped accessible. There will be adult content.
Crabbing under the Golden Gate Bridge
We will meet at a pier in the Marina/Presidio district of San Francisco where we will be located near the Golden Gate Bridge. The views of the water will be spectacular and because of the size of the pier we will have more than enough room to spread out and try our techniques. Make sure to arrive early so you can find parking and pay for it if need be near The Warming Hut cafe.
Once all the guests have arrived we will learn to set up the equipment we will supply with a very detailed explanation of how and why we use particular gear. Once we have set up our rods, filled our bait in our traps we will learn the different forms of casting and the technique of reeling. Because we are fishing for crab there is a different approach to how you catch crab off of a rod and reel.
We will not be allowed to take home any Dungeness crab, unfortunately, because the Bay is a protected estuary. As a result we will be catching rock & red crab which are edible and delicious crabs to take home. This experience is an all weather endeavor so rain or shine we will make it happen.
Please join me as many others have to see if spending an afternoon out on the waterfront of the bay, meeting new people and learning a skill is right for you!
Great for big groups, corporate outings and team building exercises! Please inquire directly if you have 10+ people
