Float the Canyons of the Rio Grande
Imagine floating thru the epic canyons of the Rio Grande on a full day, fully guided, fully equipped trip. The Rio is mostly flat water for a scenic adventure. The river has class I rapids that is perfect for our first timers. Come learn and/or work on your boating skills. The water levels fluctuate and can influence what boats we take: rafts (we can row you down the river or everyone paddles), canoes, or kayaks. Throughout the winter season, the river is usually not more than thigh deep.
Riding in a raft with all your favorite people makes for some fun pictures. We can row you down the river in a raft or if you/some/all want to paddle raft that is a great option too. At lower water levels we like to canoe and kayak. The canoes are 2 seaters with the option to ride smaller kids in the middle. The kayaks are single or tandem sit in or sit on top and are totally lots of fun. Weather also can influence what the choice boat would be.
We meet up in the morning and then drive down to the river. Included is all gear and dry bags. Please bring your own food and beverages. A cooler to put your lunch in and ice water is provided. Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet.
Other things to note
We will meet at 9 a.m. central time (check your clock) at the office of Big Bend Boating & Hiking Company. Pack a camera, snacks, a lunch, water bottle and big smiles for a great day

Our hope is that you'll feel healthier and happier after spending time hiking with us and connecting with the beauty of Colorado. There will be an optional group lunch after the hike or you can buy lunch at the coffee shop and eat at a picturesque spot on the trail.

* Parts of the trails may be wet, muddy, or icy especially in winter, we'll navigate these areas carefully or find alternate routes as necessary.
* guests should wear closed toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing that is suitable for light hiking
Each child under 10 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and will share a llama on the trails with an adult unless they've had prior experience with handling large livestock.

Write & Take Home a Song from Nashville
You don't have to be a musician/songwriter to enjoy this experience: it's for everyone! The goal is to write something meaningful to you, that tells a piece of your own story and that you'll be able to take a recording of it home.
I am fully Pfizer vaccinated.
I have had 5 year olds that want to write about mermaids, to 90 year olds who want to write a song for their grandkids to everyone in between.
Now, about our Experience: first, we'll meet in my recording studio in historic East Nashville. I always enjoy getting to know about your life and help you to find your inspiration/reason to write our song that day, if you don't already have a topic or lyrics. We will then begin our writing and recording process, and let the therapy begin!
I want you to feel completely comfortable and to be open about your important life experiences, so we can hone in on your desired subject matter. I would love to know your favorite styles of music and artists so we can draw from inspiration resonating with you, personally.
In the end, you’ll leave this experience with a recorded demo of the song we wrote together with vocals, violins, guitars galore.
Other things to note: If you don't feel inspired that day, don't worry about it. You can just let me bring the creative flow and point out your favorite parts.
Ring make-and-take with local artist
We'll get comfortable in our studio barn/workshop area, where you'll grab a glass of wine, a local craft beer, or glass of fresh spring water from our bar before we get started. After a brief tour of our little urban farm, I'll do a quick demonstration to show you the techniques and procedures for making several different styles of rings. Then you'll get busy working hands-on with different tools and materials to create your own custom, unique ring exactly to your liking. I can provide as much support as necessary to help you to feel comfortable with the process and to create your desired outcome. We'll seal/finish your ring if necessary and you'll take it home with you at the end of the session.
Other things to note
We have free-range chickens and a free-range cat. All are friendly. :) If you aren't seeing the date or time you'd like available on the calendar, feel free to send me a message and we'll try to work something out if possible!

Goat Hike Along the Ol' Miners' Trail
“Valerie is an awesome host, she made the whole experience very fun and delightful. She is great at bringing the group of strangers together in such a short time. And the goats are just fantastic.”
We begin our goat hike at the STAGE STOP, 20 minutes West of Boulder. After introducing ourselves, some Western lore, and the "girls" (goats), we'll start our hike through the historic living museum beginning with the Cloud City mining district. I’ll tell stores from the miners’ journals as I point out relics from their lives and mines. You will be selfing with the goats, taking panoramic pics of the mountain scenery and enjoying the mountain climb.
You'll be seeing old mine portals, the school house and root cellar, stone walls, mine tunnels and stone cabin foundations. The land reveals many secrets of the past and I'll be sharing them with you.
Along the way there is time for water and breathing. The famous Downhill Goat Race will conclude our adventure. Each hiker will steers her goat down the hillside to the winner’s circle. Back to the STAGE STOP, where we began, I'll offer lunch ideas and local adventures you might enjoy. Then we bid adieu.
"The hike with Valerie and her goats was the highlight of our trip. Her location and stories offer everything to experience the real beauty and history of Colorado."
