The museum of Kritsotopoula's house is located in the village of Kritsa, in the house where Rodanthi (Kritsotopoula) used to live. Rodanthi, her name means the rose blossom, was the daughter of Kritsa's priest. Rodanthi in 1817 managed to escaped from Hoursit, the Turk Aga, who fall in love with her and wanted to marry her, by killing him with his own sharp knife. Then she wore his clothes and went to the mountains of Dikti in Lasithi plateau. There she cut her long hair and joined the army of Chieftain Kazanis, dressed like a man and named Manolis. She fought against the Turks and nobody ever realized that she was a woman, until 1823 when she was severely injured during a battle at the place Koutarando. She died in Kritsa and was buried in the cemetery of Prodromos.

Museum of Kritsotopoula At the very heart of the village of Kritsa we find the actual house of Rodanthi, who is also known as “Kritsotopoula”, which houses the “Folk Museum of Kritsotopoula”. Rodanthi was the daughter of the priest of Kritsa and in 1817 she managed to free herself from Hursit Pasha who had taken her as his wife by killing him. She then fled to the mountains dressed as a young man and joined the rebel group of Lasithi Plateau. She fought under the name of Spanomanolis against the Turks and she was wounded during one of the fiercest battles of that time. Her wounds force her to return to Kritsa where her real identity was revealed and she passed away. The numerous exhibits of the museum provide a testimony of the everyday life of that era.
