Jungle Friends is the largest New World sanctuary in the US. We are home to nearly 200 monkeys- capuchins, marmosets, tamarins, squirrel and spider monkeys. Most of the monkeys were released from laboratory research, others were former "pets", some in the entertainment industry and others confiscated by authorities.
During your tour you will meet the monkeys up-close and personal. Rachel- Executive Director; or Lindsey- Sanctuary Director; or Kari- Founder; or Sara-docent since 2001, will make the introductions to our monkey friends.
You will learn about the monkeys' pasts and hear their heartwarming stories of rescue to recovery. You will meet monkeys who will change your life and steal your heart.
Meet Bongo, who was in iron-toxicity studies living all alone in a small lab cage for decades. He also suffered from paraplegia, but with the help of our "re-habitats" and the tender loving care of KC, Bongo's monkey friend, he can walk again!
Meet Kilroy, who currently holds the record for the oldest Bolivian squirrel monkey, he was used in cocaine studies. If you want to impress Kilroy, come equipped with cashews!
Meet Trader Nick, who was used in behavioral research with the University of Georgia. Nick will give you something special in exchange for nuts.
Baby Skotty will steal your heart. He was confiscated after authorities found methamphetamines in his blood.
