The space
Stringer’s Cottage features a queen size bed with a luxuriously warm doona and plenty of pillows. Sheets and towels are provided as part of the rental price. The bedroom has windows opening on to a bushland setting, and a fireplace which adds to the romantic ambience. Firewood is provided and the wood burning fire will burn efficiently day and night to keep the cottage cosy in Winter.
In Summer, Stringer’s Cottage is a great escape from the heat, in the shady Stringer’s Gully. Leave the screen door closed and enjoy the valley breezes, the smell of eucalyptus and the sound of the creek below. The large bedroom features two comfy armchairs and a wide selection of books and magazines to while away the time.
The galley kitchen has fridge, stove, oven and plenty of crockery and cutlery, and there is a small supply of complimentary tea, coffee and milk provided for your arrival. The kitchen counter overlooks Stringer’s Creek and there are barstools so you can sit on and enjoy the view while you dine.
The compact bathroom features a shower with instantaneous gas hot water, and a separate indoor toilet and hand basin. The cottage is light and bright with its own porch and outdoor dining space under cover. It's cosy in Winter and cool in Summer. A wooden staircase (35 steps) leads up to the road where you are just a short walk to the village. Parking is next to the Coach House wood shed, and is all on the one level for unloading when you first arrive. If no-one is in the Coach House feel free to use the driveway to walk in and out if that is easier.
You have access to the whole cottage and an outdoor garden area and outdoor setting. The property is not fenced. Minimum 2 nights' booking on weekends. For long weekends and public holidays a surcharge may apply.
A baby's cot can be provided at no extra cost.
I can be contacted in an emergency, day or night on the mobile phone.
While staying at Stringer's Cottage you will experience the serenity of a real bush environment. It is very peaceful and private with the only sounds the birds and the rushing water of Stringer's Creek below. The scenic Walhalla Tourist Train runs for part of the year on Wednesdays and weekends, and there are also gold mine tours. There are walking ghost tours on the weekends. You are 10 minutes walking distance from the pub and about another 5 minutes to the rest of the town. Rawson is a 10 minute drive, Erica 20 minutes, Mt St Gwinear 30 minutes away with toboganning and cross-country skiing and Mt Baw Baw 50 minutes drive for skiing.
Everything is walking distance, and the cottage sits above the tourist railway line. There is off-road parking for your vehicle next door, beside the wood shed at the Coach House. It is ideal to park and unload here if there is no one staying at the Coach House, but as a courtesy to guests, please use your own staircase down from the road at all other times. You do not require a 4WD though there are lots of local tracks to explore if you do have one.
