Make Authentic Tempura - Don & miso soup in Osaka
Hi there, I’m Yuki a local from Japan, Osaka. Menu 1. Tempura - Don-Buri It means rice and tempura in the same dish. For Tempura Don first comes the yummy sauce. This is where I’ll show you my secret technique on how to make Tempura scrumsously crunchy. 2. Miso Soup Our class program aims to create miso soup the most authentic and traditional way. It is achieved by carefully shaving the dried bonito fish using handcrafted shaving equipment. Something that most Japanese locals have never experienced before. By making it by this method we ensure the miso soup is going to be fresh with real flavours. The cooking course will be taught on location at a historic & wood-crafted Japanese-styled home dating back to over a century. You will be cooking surrounded by traditional bonsai & local food gardens. The area is very quiet and has a traditional atmosphere - you can also book to stay. I sometimes invite my local friends to my cooking class! After class, let’s have a chat together, we can exchange language, culture and fun time. :)

Especially hidden gems in Nara, cycling along the Saho river, which only local people visit :) With fewer tourists, no cars, and no stress, you'll get a relaxed feeling from a busy Osaka/Kyoto stay. And in Nara park, beside the crowded and busy Todaiji-big Buddha (600yen entrance fee), few people go up to Nigatsudo hall on the hill. This is because the view from the Nigatsu-do hall is just breathtakingly beautiful. But you've got to ride your bicycle up there. So it's a little bit of exercise. We can feed the deer in Nara park while we go cycling around. I'll get the deer crackers for you :) And I'll take some lovely group photos of you while cycling. I'm an excellent selfie photographer! From Nigatsudo hall to the station, it's all the way downhill. But it's an easy way back! We'll get our raincoats and walk around the park if it rains hard. (We ride buses between the station and the park.) There is a sake brewery in town, and we can try Sake tasting if you want. (500yen Extra charge) Other things to note Please make sure that you can ride bicycles very well. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for cycling. Please bring your cap or hat to prevent health problems caused by heat strokes.
Farm to table permaculture workshop
This experience is a hands-on practice of permaculture and community gardening on the 400 years old estate just outside of our traditional Japanese house. You'll join our gardening team and get your hands dirty. You can come from 8.30am~9am. We work in the forest garden until 12 noon. Then, we have a seasonal farm to table lunch around 12.30 and the day is over. If you want, you can have a shower at the end of the experience. This activity is a good follow-up for the voyagers that enjoyed our other experience "Food forest tasting & Japan lord mansion" and want to participate in building the resilience of our community. We call our special place "Niwamori BFF Nara Japan" and we aim to make it a permaculture hub and biodiversity refuge in Nara city. We will do some gardening activities, talk about how the plants communicate and how to build a healthy soil. You can go at your own rhythm. Relax, enjoy the nature and let the garden "zenify" your soul. At the end of the session, you'll be able to pick your own organic, seasonal lunch. We are eating this way for the last two years and trust us, it's the tastiest meals we ever had in our lives. Nothing beats a fresh, slow growing, nutrient packed, home grown veggie. So, what do you say, you'd like to try gardening with us for a few hours? Jump in! Other things to note You do not need to have experience gardening to join this program. Please bring extra clothes to change into and wear shoes that can survive a little dirt. From May to October there are mosquitoes in the field. We recommended to come in long sleeves and long pants.
