THE HOUSE
It is one of the home of a complex designed by the German architect Oscar Mathias Ungers in the center of Gibellina. The house is spread over four levels. The interiors, designed and decorated by its owner with contributions from friends, artists and designers who over the years have gone from home, ringing the peculiarities of New Gibellina: the contemporary is highlighted by references to the memory of a distant past. Guests will receive the first three levels, consisting of two self contained apartments. The first appartement is on the ground floor: is a large open space that overlooks a small enclosed garden ideal for breakfast and a cocktail at the end of the day. Ideal for a couple, it is equipped with a private bathroom and a small kitchnette where guests can prepare breakfast or cook. The second appartement is on two floors (at the first and at the second): at the the first floor they are two bedrooms, and a bathroom. An internal staircase bring to the second floor that consists in a spacious living room, with a kitchen, and a little service.
The third floor is the owner's residence, an open space designed to accommodate exhibitions and installations by contemporary artists. While from the roof terrace (which will soon be made accessible by the guests) you can enjoy a unique 360 ° view over architectures and sculptures surrounding (Alessandro Mendini, Peter Consagra, L.Quaroni, Pure & Thermes, Fausto Melotti, Mimmo Rotella), the hills and the nearby Salemi.
GIBELLINA
Gibellina is a special place. You could say that it is known of the twentieth century, both destroyed by an earthquake, both rebuilt by seeking beauty. But while Noto is now a city with centuries of history, is still a city Gibellina "child." The Mother Church of L.Quaroni, the Palace of Lorenzo di Francesco Venezia, the system of squares of Franco Pure and Laura Thermes, the buildings front of Peter Consagra, are just some of monumentality on the urban fabric. 3 museums: the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum Belìce | Epicenter, and just outside the town, the Museum of Mediterranean Textures in the extraordinary home of Case Di Stefano, an important seventeenth-century farmhouse, beautifully rebuilt and headquarters of the Foundation Orestiadi. At 18 km, the ruins of the old center, the largest contemporary art work in the world and a masterpiece of one of the greatest artists of the last century, the Great Cretto by Alberto Burri.
THE TERRITORY
We are at the center of the province of Trapani in an area that now includes very well known destinations: Selinunte, Mozia, Segesta, the Egadi Islands, San Vito Lo Capo, the Zingaro Reserve, Scopello, Erice, Sciacca. All in a radius of 50 km.
And we are in the Valle del Belice known for the earthquake that in 1968 hit her hard. It is an extraordinarily beautiful and diverse territory, still little known. The campaign in Ireland is almost winter, spring is colored blooms surprising, and in the summer prevail contrasts between the green of the vineyards and olive groves and the dryness of the estates. Lands that produce food excellence: Nocellara del Belice olive oil, considered by experts among the best in the world, the award-winning wines (of this territory are, among others, Planeta, Donnafugata, Spadafora), cheese from sheep Belice .
But the Belice is also rich in history and its vestiges. Extraordinary prehistoric sites dot the area. Before the arrival of the Greeks, and developed an Elymas still mysterious civilization, with its network of cities, the most famous of which is Segesta, all built on high ground elusive and breathtaking views. One of it, Entella, in the thirteenth century it became the last stronghold of the Arab resistance in Sicily and this destroyed by Frederick II. To finally get to the sites of the archeology of the earthquake of '68: the seventeenth-century and spectral Poggioreale Santa Margherita, which is the Donnafugata of the Leopard; Salemi and its rich historic center. And then the reserves and natural sites.
Sevices of the house:
Air conditioning and heating
Wi-fi
Possibility to organize pick-up from and to the airports of Palermo and Trapani, ports and main towns within a radius of 100 km.
Ability to organize tours and custom circuits throughout the province of Trapani and in the Belice Valley.
The owner is a connoisseur of the area and its history, and if you feel like it will unveil routes and destinations that you will not find in any guide: beaches and coves, even in August, archaeological and natural sites still unknown to tourists, and then the right addresses to taste a real Sicilian cannoli, or to stock up of agro-food (by the amazing oil olives Nocellara del Belice, the award-winning wines) directly from the manufacturers.
