Visiting the Auschwitz and Birkenau Museum
This tour is different from most standard tours to Auschwitz, so make sure it is for you and read the tour itinerary carefully. During this experience you will have the opportunity to visit more sites and exhibits that are not available during a normal large group tour.
Tour plan:
Setting off from Krakow in the middle of the day to avoid large groups of tourists at the museum our trip will first go to the "Judenrampe", this was a railroad siding near the Birkenau camp where the so-called selections took place (most of the Auschwitz visitors don't get see it).
Then you will go to visit the entire "Auschwitz II Birkenau" camp, which was the main extermination camp during the Holocaust.
Before entering the camp, I will explain to you exactly what to pay attention to during the 1,5-hour self walk and lend you a book with a description and map of the camp. Then there will be a short break for lunch or coffee (the prices in the restaurant near the museum are quite high so it is best to bring your own snacks with you). After the break we will drive to the "Auschwitz I" camp. This is now the main museum, where you will find a gate with the inscription "Arbeit Macht Frei", an exhibition that is housed in former prisoner blocks, reconstructed first gas chamber with ovens and chimney, personal artifacts belonging to prisoners and much more.
Tour to Auschwitz and Birkenau
The way we organise this tour is different than most of the tours to Auschwitz so please make sure it will suit you :-). It's for visitors that expect to have more time to explore the exhibition, which is a big advantage because You will have the chance to see a part of it that is not open for big organized groups. First we will take You to see authentic Juden Ramp where most of the selections were taking place : it is 2 km away from the camp (again most of the visitors don't get see it). After that You will visit Auschwitz II Birkenau extermination camp (that's where Holocaust happened) with an audioguide. It's good 2h of walking so You will deserve a break for lunch or cup of cofeee in the restaurant right by museum. After a break You will see all the evidences of the crime, theArbeitMachtFrei gate , remain building of the gas chamber and crematorium and belongings of the victims.
Pierogi Power Cooking Class
Our culinary meeting takes place in Salwator, one of Krakow's prettiest and most historical areas, not far from the Old Town – about 12 min by tram and 10 by taxi.
Our cooking class will start with a welcome drink (tea and coffee) in the kitchen, followed by putting on aprons (which I provide) and washing our hands (disinfectant is also provided).
I will then give a very brief introduction to the history of Polish cuisine in general and the pierogi in particular. Then, together we’ll prepare the dough and the filling together, learning the secrets of making that special flavour. Once ready with these, we’ll fill the dough parcels with the filling and make the pierogi. Each participant will have their own board to prepare these dumplings, and I am on hand to assist at every stage.
Once prepared, we’ll start cooking the pierogi and… start eating them! There will be plenty to go around, and no-one will be left hungry. Finally, we’ll share some of my home-made cheesecake with salty caramel sauce, together with fresh coffee or tea.
Krakow History Walking Tour with Rudolf
One thing I want to tell anybody coming to Kraków is that exploring it without some way to get to know what's what and why it is there is a tremendous waste. Kraków is exceptionally rich in capital H History. Monuments, stories and legends go back to the beginning of the Polish nation and from there all the way to the present day. It is the true Heart of Poland.
I offer my own take on how to present all that unfolded and engraved itself into the streets of my town.
I am also a local through and through and there are a certain perspective and emotional charge in me that I hope to pass onto you.
I want to give you the general idea of the history of Poland which I cut into digestible and narratable chunks that will also relate to things that you will be able to touch and see for yourself. We will go from the Old Town to the Castle on the Wawel hill and anchor more than a dozen times to talk about what you see and how does that tie into the city in a meaningful way.
See you there!
If the hours available in the schedule are not suitable for you - please write to me and we will surely find a date that is :)
TasteVodka - Polish Vodka Tasting Tour
We kick things off at the first bar with a big spread of Polish style tapas. Think fresh crusty breads, tasty cured meats, smoked and salted mountain cheeses. With the food you’ll be sampling two incredible and historic Polish clear vodkas while taking our crash course in vodka history, production and culture. There's lots of funny stories and we keep the history short and sweet although us guides will be more than happy to go into more detail throughout the tour.
We’ll then take you on an adventure through the cobblestone streets of Kraków’s UNESCO World Heritage Old Town to explore the city’s hidden vodka bars and cafes. You’ll step back in time through the doors of a communist era shot bar, explore one of Europe’s only home-made flavoured vodka cafes and get cosy in a hole-in-the wall candlelit vodka bar boasting more than one-hundred varieties. The flavoured vodkas really are mind-blowingly good and there's more than two-hundred varieties stocked by the bars on the tour.
At the end of the tour we'll be stopping off to check out the city’s best Pierogi in our favourite foodie joint, perfect to soak up all the vodka and make sure you're not too wobbly on your feet :)
Other things to note
Please do not arrive intoxicated. It is illegal for you to be served.
Persons under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and cannot participate in the consumption of alcohol on the tour.

Pierogi Cooking Class with Market Shopping and Local Snacks
You'll be welcomed into my kitchen to master the typical Polish skill - PIEROGI making. I will be pleased to introduce you to the most famous and delicious Polish dish which is pierogi (dumplings).
First, we will meet in Kraków's Old Town and walk through the oldest operating marketplace in town. It is a place to be, not only because of the great amount of fresh, local products but also because of its vibrant and unique atmosphere with some great hidden gems! After we buy what we need the most (and also what we can't help but try - so fresh and tasty!) we will have a short walk to my apartment. There you'll be treated to some local snacks and drinks and we will start cooking.
We will go through the whole process of pierogi making, from making the dough, preparing the filling and creating special shapes of the dough, and finally eating! Primarily we will prepare pierogi with the most known filling - fresh cottage cheese, potatoes, and caramelized onions.
During the experience, I will share my knowledge of Kraków, Poland, and polish culinary traditions. I will give you my personal recommendations of what to try while visiting Kraków and give you some hints of what to do and where to go to feel like a true local.
The main goal of the experience? Food hedonism!
(Please note that on Sundays the market is closed but instead I'm preparing some extra treats! Go ahead & ask me!)
