Then we will walk to the purpose built Meeting Barn (shared between humans and animals as in days past). We gather in the atrium of tall larch logs around the central hearth sharing stories about our animals, as our ancestors did in the forests of this land. You will meet the animals that are being hand reared and taught to walk for the shows and spectacles for which pedigree Highlanders go through their paces. You will be introduced to Baby and Boy -giant sweet-natured bullocks who adore being fed and talked to. Next, (weather permitting!;-)) you will see the main herd of breeding mothers with their babies -(the nearest thing to real-life teddy bears!)- and Dougie the timid, affectionate bull. Afterwards you can explore the pastures where the animals roam at large. At the end of the tour you are free to wander the farm under your own steam, or enjoy stunning walks in the immediate vicinity with magnificent photographic opportunities. For those wanting to deepen their understanding of the Highlanders, on-farm accommodation is available on Airbnb Crofthouse at the Roundhouse (sleeping up to 8) or Hairy Cow Studio (cosy for 1-2 people).

Spectacular Waterfall secluded places
We'll meet at my house in Inverness and drive to the start of our hike through native woodland over a single track road that borders the shore of Loch Ness. We'll then walk down through the forest navigating through the trails to enable the best views of the falls. On the way I'll chat about the history of the location and its connection with Robbie Burns, pointing out some of the hidden inscriptions and poems found on rocks as we walk to the lookout areas for the falls.
We'll then head further down through the trails and wonderful scenery as I explain more about the ecology of the area and we'll keep our eyes peeled for deer, red squirrel and if we're really lucky we may see signs of Otters, eventually we'll emerge on the banks of Loch Ness where a certain beastie lives. We head along the shoreline to discover some of the old abandoned huts and climb up to a hidden monument that overlooks the loch. We continue through old burial grounds, stopping at the disused bridge for more photos, and a view up along the lower falls river. Returning gently back up through the forest and gorge to the top where we will have a well-deserved cake and coffee/tea in the Waterfall Cafe.

Make a Felted Landscape in Inverness
Guests will be introduced to a wide colour palette of ethically sourced merino wool reflecting the rich colours of the Scottish Highlands. We will then tease apart and layer the wool to form a landscape scene before adding sparkling strands, and other felted fibres to represent sheep, trees and crofts.
We will then sprinkle warm soapy water onto our artwork before rubbing it between 2 layers of bubblewrap. It's a bit like shinking a jumper in the wash!
Our fibres will eventually bond, forming a firm piece of fabric. The artwork is rinsed and excess water squeezed out. Once dry, your unique felted landscape will be ready for you to take home and frame.
Other things to note
The cabin is accessed via a series of steps and gentle slopes which may be challenging for guests with limited ability. The cabin has quite a low roof so please mind your head if you're over 5' 8"

Hug a Hairy
We will meet you at the gate and introduce you to special animals who are trained for showing and becoming accustomed to interaction with humans. You will be introduced to the individual animal, taught the best method to approach and reassure and then to comb and caress. Once you have gained the confidence of the animal you will be shown how to approach with sensitivity but authority (a quality we have been taught to distrust in our culture).
When you have earned the trust of the animal, you are invited to share moments of heart to heart warmth: the Hairy Hug - the very same way that the Highlanders express affection between themselves!
Weather permitting we will then meet the main herd, observing the special herd bond that you now share. This gives you a chance to stretch your legs and see a bit more of the farm and the beautiful landscape.
The Experience of making close contact with this proud but affectionate breed of animals will remain with you for a long time, and also equip you with entry-level understanding of how to establish an understanding with another species.

Walking Tour and Lunch on the Croft
Join us on our traditional Scottish farm to get a glimpse into crofting life. We are a working croft and aim to give you a real feel of the crofting life, which is unique to the Scottish Highlands. Plan in 2 hours for a guided walk around the animals. While enjoying the stunning views and scenery, learn about crofting and local history, from the Neolithic to the Clearances. There will be plenty of photo opportunities with our 4-legged friends and stunning surroundings. In June/July the sheep will be shorn, so if you would like to try your hand at this traditional crofting chore, Tom, who is a professional shearer, will give you an introduction. The ponies will love being fussed over. We will visit our herd of native cows before feeding and stroking the pigs and the chickens, where you can collect your own eggs if you're lucky, and - depending on whether there are any - the pet lambs will need their bottle, too. We finish our tour with a working sheep dog demonstration to show you our collie Tib in action with the sheep.
After that, we'll deserve a hearty homemade soup and bread, followed by fresh scones and shortbread. Feel free to fire away with any questions you have regarding the animals or crofting during our walk or over our cuppa afterwards
* If you fancy staying on the Croft: We also have AirB'n'B accommodation available.
