Murals and social change
You will get to know the different ways in which muralism has been used as a tool for social change for both the state and civil society and how the city walls have been used as a frame for protests.
We will start at the Ministry of Public Education or at the Fine Arts Palace where you will learn about the history of post-revolutionary muralism, immortalized by Mexican muralists such as Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. We will explain how this language was used for the education of the people.
In the second part we will take you to murals in the Historic Center hidden in markets and teachers unions, created by lesser known figures of the muralist movement. These murals show more radical ideas about politics, woman's rights and other topics. These images will also help us to reflect about current issues in Mexico.
