Sanctuary Tour and Pamper a Pig
How often do you have the chance to spend time with an adorable pot belly pig? Well, here is your chance! All of the pot belly pigs at Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary have been rescued, whether from abuse, neglect, or simply owners who were not properly educated about how to care for them. With so many myths being perpetuated about these so called "mini pigs" we want to educate about what they are really like while we have fun spoiling them with you. Come and enjoy a piggy day when you can come, take a tour of our entire facility, learning about the work we do with horses, goats, dogs, cats, and pigs. Finish the tour by helping us to feed our pigs their dinner and some scratches and you will get happy grunts and tail wags in return! Other things to note Whenever you are interacting with animals, it is important to keep in mind that animals can be unpredictable. They may accidentally scratch you or even grab a finger when they mean to grab a treat from your hand. Our pigs are not aggressive generally, but it is always best to be cautious around all animals! It's also important that you do NOT bring along your own pet to this experience because they will not be allowed on the experience and cannot be left alone in a car!
Play with miniature goats

And Great Dane puppy, Spock, will be there, too! WHAT TO EXPECT BY SEASON: Spring: Babies are brand new, still on the bottle. Summer: Older babies are weaned and getting a little rowdy. Fall: The babies are tweens now, getting bigger but still snugglers. (Don't see a date that works for you? Drop me a message and let's see if we can't make another day work.) Other things to note: You will get dirty and covered in animal hair! There will be poop! Babies can get a bit crazy so be prepared for some adorable chaos. This experience is rain or shine.

Essential oil and hydrolat distillation in the Hudson Valley
My name is Libby and I am a clinical aromatherapist, herbalist, organic skincare formulator and experienced educator. Discover the ancient art of distillation on a large property in upstate New York, in the picturesque town of Rhinebeck. In this experience, you will learn how to distill two products - essential oil and hydrolat (medicinal water) - using a copper alembic still imported from Europe. Aromatic remedies have been distilled using this method for thousands of years. Through hands-on instruction, you will learn the basics of distillation in relation to these medicinal waters and oils, preparing the plant matter and setting up the still. Guests will be able to taste a variety of hydrolats which have been sourced directly from the land. This is as we wait for the magic of the still to produce the aromatics. You will make a wellness product using essential oils and hydrolats that can be taken home while we discuss ways in which these products can be incorporated into daily life. We'll end with you filtering the fresh essential oils and hydrosols to take home and enjoy. *Please contact me if a time/date that works for you is not available. I am happy to accommodate special requests if possible. * Discounts apply for multiple people booking together.

Adventure Hike with the Herd
Everything is better with goats. (It's true.) Designed specifically for the people who love being active in the outdoors and also love animals! Come hike with us and our herd of rescued goats through the beauty of the forest tucked into a remote part of the Catskills, just 2 hours from Manhattan. Our goats feel safest with humans and so they magically follow and walk with us through the woods on seasoned trails as we become part of their herd. No leashes needed! We will meander over beautiful streams, enjoying the wildlife and scenery while we forage for some of the goat's favorite treats. We stop midway for a brief rest and snack before finishing our loop, hiking approximately 2.5 miles and taking about 1.5 - 2 hrs, depending on the pace we set. For those who are interested, your guide can tell you the rescue story of each goat, share their quirks and different personalities and answer any question you might have about goats in general (with a few terrible goat jokes/puns thrown in for good measure.) If you are looking for a unique outdoor experience that combines your love of animals, hiking and nature, this is for you! Please note:* This experience is best suited for guests over age 16 over due to the length of the hike, variable terrain & size/behaviors of the goats. *This activity is rain or shine, with the exception of local weather advisories or heavy rain.
Hike beautiful Breakneck Ridge, along the Hudson River
****TEMPORARY CHANGE: Due to construction work to relocate the Breakneck trailhead and repair trail surfaces from 3/1/23 to 7/1/23, our hike will begin at Wilkinson Memorial trailhead on our way to our first major viewpoint atop Breakneck Ridge. The beginning of the trail is a short walk from the train station or parking.**** I'll be prepared with snacks, water, first aid kit and ponchos and other hiking essentials for our 4 mile hike. The first portion of our hike will be a quickly elevating, but easier, climb with NYNJTC constructed steps. The next stage will be more difficult and require the use of your hands for climbs over some boulders, but we'll go at your group's pace with plenty of time to take in scenery, hydrate, and learn. The final 1.5 miles is all down hill! Along the way, you'll have sweeping views of the Hudson River, historic architecture like Bannerman Castle, and sometimes wildlife such as the northern fence lizard or hawks. If you're lucky, you might see hawks hunting in the valley below as you watch from above at the peak of our hike. The trail loops back to route 9D, where we began. Our route should take about 3.5 hours, give or take, depending on your pace and level of experience. I can't wait to show you the beauty of Breakneck Ridge and the Hudson Valley!
