The Great Otway National Park stretches from Torquay through to Princetown and up through the Otway hinterlands towards Colac. The park features rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, rock platforms and windswept heathland. In the north, the park features tall forests, ferny gullies, magnificent waterfalls and tranquil lakes. Down south, the rainforest gives way to the ocean in dramatic fashion. Visit the turbulent meeting of the South Ocean and Bass straight at Cape Otway Lightstation, or seek out a sheltered beach for a day of sea play. Source: visitotways.com

In the Great Otway National Park, you really feel the world is your oyster. Soak in the wide expanse of blue sky and sea at one of many beaches, secret coves or rock pools. Try Torquay, famed for its pumping surf, or take a dip at Anglesea, where iron-rich red cliffs frame the sand. The trail from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles stretches for a massive 100 kilometres; surely enough to tire out even the longest of limbs. Or, opt to ramble through dense rainforest. Hikes abound in the Great Otway National Park, but don’t miss the Californian Redwoods. Initially planted as an experiment, these statuesque trees have now grown to 60-metres tall, making for the most humbling of hikes. The rainforest is also the place to discover atmospheric waterfalls amidst the hum of wildlife. It’s an easy hike to reach Stevenson Falls, a moderate hike to reach Hopetoun Falls, Little Aire Falls and Triplet Falls and a difficult hike to reach Beauchamp Falls.
