The Lion was gifted to the Swiss by the French following the support of the Swiss Guard during the French Revolution. Depending on the time of year, you can grab yourself a small picnic and eat under one of the looming trees. Observing the traffic of people coming and going.
The Lion is Lucerne's main city symbol after "Kapellbrücke". It's a silent spot to enjoy. Don't miss to throw a coin backwards over your shoulder into the little water-fountain. Nearby there is the museum of glacers, called "Gletschergarden", with it's well located "vista point" on the tower.
Most visitors of Luzern go to see the iconic Lion Monument, which is not so strange considering its beauty, history and importance to the city. However it also means there are usually quite a lot of tourists there taking photos. It is worth it nonetheless.
