Built in 1940 and was the world's largest fish hatchery at the time. There are tanks of fingerlings and fish ladders. The main building is open when staff are available. Freely walk around the grounds and read the signage. There are also trails to walk beyond the hatchery. Spring Chinook return to the hatchery to spawn in June/July.
The fish hatchery is a very short walk from Icicle Camp. While there you can learn about and view salmon and walk an easy, pleasant trail . . . and possibly see wildlife.
A must do while in Leavenworth, great place to see some of the local wildlife while learning about the local salmon migration and is an easy hike out to both of the bridges or follow the nature trail and learn how recognize wildlife tracks. Another place that is fun for kids of all ages
